Breast cancer in TCM and the complementary treatment
- a classical view and for today’s application

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer amongst women and affects at least one million women worldwide.

Breast cancer accounts for 30 percent of all female cancers in the west and approximately 1 in 9 women in Europe will get breast cancer sometime during their life.
Breast cancer threatens women’s lifes and human society. 
The treatment of breast cancer in western medicine still mainly uses surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy.  During the treatments, the patients suffer from various side effects.
What are the TCM classical views of breast cancer developed and what can TCM do for the treatments and complementary treatments of western medicine? In this lecture, it will be discussed deeply.

The following issues will be the key points of this lecture:
- Breast physiology in TCM
- The etiology and pathological mechanisms of  breast cancer in TCM
- The treatment and prevention of breast cancer by using Chinese herbs and acupuncture
- The complementary treatment of breast cancer for western medicines by modification of classical herbal formulas and acupuncture
- Clinical case practices and discussion

Dr. Li Jie (NL), PhD. finished his master training at Bei Jing Medical University China in 1989. In 1997, he finished his PhD and post Doc study in physiology at Nijmegen University, The Netherlands.
He has been engaged in TCM teaching and practice for more than 20 years.
Dr. Li Jie is one of founders of Qing Bai TCM Academy in the Netherlands, as well as the TCM Classical Research Institute, The Netherlands. 
Currently, he is Professor at Shan Dong TCM University China, academic supervisor for The Netherlands Acupuncture Association and Chief teacher of Qing Bai TCM Academy. He has been teaching for ten years as an advanced lecturer for The Netherlands General Practitioner (GP) Acupuncture Association and is also an internationally frequently invited lecturer for TCM.
He is the founder and director of TCM Classics Research Institute Netherlands.  
He is practicing herbal medicine and acupuncture in Netherlands.
Since 2007, he has engaged in ‘International TCM Master training program’ with Shan Dong TCM University China. He has been lecturing completed courses of Shan Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue in The Netherlands.
